Golden Globe Award to AR Rahman
Allah Rakha Rahman or A.R.Rahman, the Music maestro has become the first Indian to receive the coveted Golden Globe award. He has received this award for the best original music score for "Slumdog Millionaire". This Mumbai-based movie also bagged four coveted awrds, including 'Best Motion Picture-Drama'.
The award was presented to this music genius at a glittering 66th annual Golden Globe awards ceremony held at Beverly Hills, California on 11th January, Sunday evening.
This young music genius is overwhelmed by this honor. On the event of his returning home the Tamils gathered at the airport on 15th January 2009 and received the genius with a thundering reception. On this memorable day AR Rahman thanked one and all and said that the award is dedicated to the Tamils as well as well as Indians on the whole
AR Rahman the Music maestro:
AR rahman has taken the contemporary Indian music to the new heights and the younger generations are crazy after him. Today, his very name is the crowd puller in the Indian movie world and he inspires the millions and millions of people with his soul stirring music.
This Madras born AS Dileep Kumar or AR Rahman commenced his music journey as a keyboard player. His father, K.A. Sekhar was a noted musician. After some time he started his compositions for the ad jingles. In 1991 he was awarded as best for his ‘Leo coffee ‘ad jingles. He happened to meet the veteran Director Mani Ratnam (Nayagan fame) and the director booked him for his film ‘Roja’. AR Rahman got noticed for the Roja film songs.
The music lovers recognized AR Rahman and his music career after Roja was very prominent. In the year 1993 alone he was the music director for six films. The succeeding year this number rose to nine. The film Bombay (1995) directed by Mani Ratnam again brought name and fame to Rahman.
You might be remembering his ‘Vande Mataram’ song. The song came as a mark to commemorate the 50th year of Indian Independence. It was Sony Music that made an agreement with Rahman and the song came from this genius’ composition. Now Rahman’s name reached to the International audiences and he was also equated with. David Byrne, Michael Jackson and Andrew Webber Lloyd.
AR Rahman has received innumerable awards. The following list gives few of them:

2) Padmashri 2000 (Prestigious for contribution to music From Govt of India),
3) Filmfare award for Rangeela, Kadhal Desam, Minsara Kanavu, Dil Se, Taal

4) R D Burman Award at the SuMu Music Awards (1993);
5) Mauritius National Award (1995) for contribution to music;
6) Malaysian Award (1996 for contribution to music);
7) Sanskriti Award from Delhi based Sanskriti foundation (1994);
8) Kalaimamani Award from Tamil Nadu Government (1995);
9) Thangapillai Award;
10) Rajiv Gandhi Award.
